International B777-200 Version C

The 777 is a huge twinjet that offers fairly good seat width with a 2-5-2 configuration in Economy. In-seat video is provided at every seat in all classes. Passengers can also enjoy full audio entertainment including live ATC communications on channel 9.

This version is equipped with Economy Plus. Sadly, only about a third of the international 777s are configured this way. Originally all 777s were supposed to look like this by mid 2001, but they kept postponing it until they finally cancelled the reconfiguration plans. So if you are booked on a 777 that has Economy Plus, you might find out at the gate that they are instead using one that doesn't. Currently there is no way to tell ahead of time, since they don't update the reservation systems beforehand. Also, United does not compensate passengers that were downgraded into regular Economy at all. So better pick seats that look good on all three version. If you feel like gambling, pick 21 H or J.

Business Class

Nice Business Class seats.

Business Class

These seats are surprisingly close to the bulkhead and can be quite noisy.

Business Class

The separate cabin offers a fairly nice atmosphere, but the pitch is six inches less than in the rear Business cabin.

Captain's seat

This seat is reseved for the flight deck crew. It does not seem like they ever offer it to passengers, not even towards the end of the flight, when the crew won't need it any lionger. On shorter flights, this seat may usually be reserved by everybody though.

First Class

Really nice First Class suites.

First Class

The video projector is right above these seats. It is reported to sometimes be noisy and there certainly are no air vents above these seats.

Tight Economy Plus

These Economy Plus seats are fairly close to the wall in front of them, so try to avoid them.

Economy Plus

Very nice Economy Plus seats with lots of legroom and a full recline.

Economy Plus

Nice Economy Plus seats with a pitch of approximately 35 inches.

Standard Economy

Average Economy seats with a pitch of about 30 or 31 inches.

Very tight

The walls curve in and still there are nine seats abreast. Especially the B and H seats are very tight and you don't want to sit in this row at all.

Standard Economy

Average bulkhead seats that are a little too close to the wall in front of them. If you are seated in seats C or G, you can stretch out your legs into the aisle.

Row 39

Very nice seats. They are considered Standard Economy, but offer more room than your average Economy Plus seat. There is a liferaft casing next to the door in front of the window seats and also you have to live with people congregating in front of you. Some don't like the proximity of the lavatories. Also, you have no real window. Decide for yourself.

Last row

Limited recline, noisiness and lines forming for lavatories are the disadvantages of these seats. Try to avoid them.

25 and 26 H and J

While these are good Economy Plus seats, they don't exist on all three international 777s. So if you end up on another version, your reservation might be worthless and you may end up in a much less favorable spot.

21 H and J

Reserving these seats is a gamble. If you get them, you'l have the very best seats on the plane. The pitch is about 40 inches, giving you Business Class style legroom andseveral windows to use. Only drawback is that the armrest on the window side may poke into you a little. Just put a pillow between it and your leg and you'll be fine.

The problem is that on both other versions of the 777, these seats do exist, but are Standard Economy seats with less than average legroom (about 30 or maybe 31 inches). You have to decide for yourself what you want to do.

Row 20 does not exist on this version. If it shows up in the reservation system, than you are not getting this one!!!

Crew seats

17, 18 and 19 H and J are reserved for the crew on longhaul flights. On shorter flights they can be reserved by anybody. They are very recommendable, since they offer plenty of legroom and really nice fottrests (a recent traveler reports that the footrests don't seem to exist on all aircraft). Row 20 does not exist on this version. If it shows up in the reservation system, than you are not getting this one!!!

17 A and B

Really nice Economy Plus seats with good legroom and a nice view. Since you have the wall in front of you, these seats used to feel almost like a private cabin. Now that they keep the curtains open, that isn't true any more, but they still provide some more privacy than average. Nice seats for couples anyway.
